Apopo was founded in 1997 with the mission to develop a sustainable and effective method for detecting landmines and improving healthcare in impoverished regions. The project started in Mozambique and expanded to Cambodia, where the legacy of landmines from decades of conflict has left a lasting impact. The Apopo Visitor Centre was established to raise awareness of the challenges faced by affected communities and the innovative solutions provided by the HeroRATs. Through education and engagement, the center helps foster a sense of hope and encourages support for demining efforts and public health initiatives.
