Preah Vihear Temple

Construction of Preah Vihear Temple began in the 6th century under King Yasovarman I (889-900), originally dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. The temple’s development reflects the spiritual growth, political prestige, and economic prosperity of the Khmer Empire. Over the next 300 years, it underwent extensive remodeling, particularly during the reign of King Suryavarman II, who enhanced its design and layout. This long history of consultation and renovation contributed to the temple’s intricate carvings and majestic architecture, making it a symbol of both religious devotion and cultural achievement.
