Meet at the DutchCo’s office at 8:00 AM or arrange for pick-up from your accommodation. We depart at 8:30 AM for a scenic drive north towards Voensai. After reaching Kachon, embark on a narrow longboat up the Sesan River, marveling at the majestic mountains of Virachey National Park in the distance. Upon arrival at Leng Auw village, register with the village chief and meet your indigenous ranger guide.
Experience a trek through patches of forest and rice paddies as you transition into the jungle. Cross the O’ Plong River and trek uphill to stunning viewpoints where you can enjoy panoramic vistas of the jungle canopy. Along the way, your guide will share insights into local forest foods, medicinal plants, and indigenous hunting techniques. Arrive at the campsite near a waterfall by 4 PM, where you can refresh in the stream and unwind with a delightful campfire dinner.
Awaken to the sounds of nature as the guide prepares breakfast over the campfire. Today’s trek takes you deeper into the primary forest, where you will navigate gentle hills, cross creeks, and appreciate the tranquility of the wilderness. After a day of exploration, reach your second campsite, also by a stream, where you can take a refreshing bath and relax.
Optional Night Hike: Venture out with your flashlight to discover nocturnal wildlife. Experience the thrill of spotting small primates, civets, and other creatures that come alive at night, all while enjoying the mesmerizing ambiance of the forest.
After breakfast, prepare for another day of trekking off the beaten path. Expect dense vegetation and breathtaking views at every turn. Pause for a one-hour lunch break by a beautiful spot, and if the conditions permit, enjoy a swim in the river. Continue southwest, keeping an eye out for signs of the Asian black bear. Settle into a picturesque campsite close to a stream for another night of camping amidst nature.
Start your day early with a warm drink as you prepare for a trek back to civilization. After navigating dense forest trails, you will arrive at Koh Pong, a deserted island on the Sesan River. Unwind on the sandy beaches as your team prepares dinner, and immerse yourself in the serene surroundings.
On your final day, enjoy breakfast as you take in the sounds of nature awakening. Depart the island by boat, traveling downstream on the Sesan River to an outpost where you can learn about local agricultural practices. After a delicious lunch, visit the sacred Kachak cemetery in Koh Piek village, where your guide will share insights into the animist beliefs of the indigenous people and their unique burial ceremonies. Return to Kachon for transportation back to Banlung, arriving around 4 PM.
