This trek offers an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience into the depths of Virachey National Park’s jungle. Be prepared for moderate to challenging trekking, wildlife observation, and interaction with indigenous communities. The itinerary is flexible and may change based on weather, trail conditions, and guidance from the indigenous rangers.

  • Boat trip along the Sesan River with views of dense jungle and wildlife
  • Overnight stay in a remote jungle campsite and a farmhouse homestay
  • Engage with the Indigenous Brao people, learning about their farming, hunting, and fishing techniques
  • Experience panoramic views from the highlands and swim in pristine rivers
  • Observe wildlife tracks, including the footprints of the giant Gaur (wild buffalo)
  • 8:00 AM: Meet at DutchCo’s depot (or optional hotel pickup). Departure at 8:30 AM. Head north towards Voensai in a car, minivan, or trekking truck.
  • Morning: Arrive in Kachon, where you’ll board a narrow long boat for a 1-hour trip upstream along the Sesan River. The boat ride offers scenic views of jungle-covered mountains and small farmhouses along the banks.
  • Late Morning: Arrive at Leng Auw village. Register at the village Chief’s house and meet your indigenous ranger. From here, the trek begins! You’ll pass through alternating patches of rice paddy fields and forest, slowly leaving civilization behind.
  • After a short 20-minute walk, you’ll cross the O’ Plong River. In the dry season, it’s possible to wade across; during the wet season, a bamboo raft or small boat will be used.
  • Afternoon: As you trek deeper into the jungle, the path becomes more rugged, with gentle hills. Your guide will explain local hunting techniques and identify edible forest plants, fruits, and medicinal herbs used by the indigenous people.
  • 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM: Arrive at your campsite near a waterfall. Settle into the camp, where hammocks will be set up and a campfire dinner prepared. Enjoy coffee or tea while refreshing in the cascading stream.
  • Evening: Relax around the campfire and listen to the sounds of the jungle at night before turning in for the night.
  • Accommodation: Jungle camping with hammocks
  • Early Morning: Wake up to the peaceful sounds of the jungle, as crickets and insects fall silent and birds take over. Enjoy a hot breakfast and coffee or tea by the campfire.
  • 8:30 AM: Begin the last leg of your trek, heading eastward back into the forest. Along the way, you’ll continue to explore the varied landscape of dense jungle and panoramic highland views.
  • Late Morning: Return to Leng Auw village and board a small boat to cross over to Koh Pong Island, where you can enjoy the sandy beaches and take a swim in the river (depending on the season).
  • Lunch: Enjoy a freshly prepared lunch on the island.
  • Afternoon: After lunch, depart by boat back to Kachon. From there, you’ll be driven back to Banlung, arriving around 4:00 PM.
